"Most people
aim at nothing in life and hit it with amazing accuracy."
Jim Cathcart
Bruce Wares writes the following:
Recently, there was a young man who
graduated from college and decided to seek employment.
He hoped to find a job somewhere away from his hometown.
He walked into the local bus station, approached the
ticket counter and asked the clerk for a bus ticket.
What do you suppose the ticket clerk asked the young
man? He said, "Where do you want to go?" The
young man said, "I don't know. Just give me a ticket
to somewhere." He didn't get a ticket! The moral
of the story is that if you don't know where you are
going, any road will take you there.
It is important for each of us, as
individuals, to know who we are and where we want to
go. Similarly it is important for organizations to define
themselves as well. Because, when a goal is set both
the conscious and subconscious within you begin working
to help you achieve your target. It is like a map within
you keeping you on the “right” path and
directing your steps accordingly. As you stay on this
path you will automatically find yourself forming the
most creative ways and solutions to accomplish ideas
and overcome obstacles.
Every company, every individual, every student or anyone
aspiring to give more meaning to their work or personal
life needs to do to define their future direction and
the first and the most important step though is defining
your goals successfully.
